As I've been processing and uploading these images, I couldn't help but think of the one who created these amazing things. I took these as the sun was rising over the Coral Sea, with all the beauty of the flaming sun striking the clouds in such an incredible way. I may have taken a snapshot of these, but I didn't really make them. I can't take credit for their creation, and I can't make something like that- no man can. Not one of us could create something like this. I don't know about you, but I can't even make one teeny little cloud. Photography always always reminds me that there is an amazing creator out there, who has created beauty in our world for his own sake- for his joy, and to display his glory.
As the sun was coming up I sat there in awe-taking pictures, but mostly thinking of the one who was creating these kinds of things long long before man could fly, before there was anyone above the clouds to see them. For me, photography is simply a way of capturing the beauty that he has created in my everyday life. Each person is different, but for me seeing his beauty is a perpetual reminder of his presence and his love for me.
Beauty in creation also reminds me of Gd's words to a man named Job, in chapters 38-39 of our good book. A few of the verses always strike me:
"Have you ever given orders to the morning,
or shown the dawn its place,
that it might take the earth by the edges
and shake the wicked out of it? "
"Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea
or walked in the recesses of the deep?"
"What is the way to the abode of light?
And where does darkness reside?
"Can you take them to their places?
Do you know the paths to their dwellings?"
"Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain,
and a path for the thunderstorm,
to water a land where no man lives,
a desert with no one in it,
to satisfy a desolate wasteland
and make it sprout with grass?"
Do you watch when the doe bears her fawn?
Do you count the months till they bear?
Do you know the time they give birth?"
And like Job, I have to say to Gd, "I am unworthy—how can I reply to you?" If you've never read those chapters, read them through. It doesn't take long, and you might be surprised to see Gd talk about all the minute details of creation which he himself controls and sees, right down to giving the birds food, and watering a land that no man sees. He is truly amazing, and thinking about his power in creation is very humbling for me.
