April 18, 2008 Web site changes

I've been in the process of changing my website host, and changing all my images over to smugmug.com. Today I finally got the proper settings changed, after extensive help from smugmug staff due to a list of unusual complications. I used Google Apps to register my domain name with GoDaddy.com, over a year ago. The problem with that is that Google tells you that you can edit the settings, but actually you can't. You have to go through 6 levels of login and link following just to get to the Domain editing for your site, which is not recognized by GoDaddy as yours, but instead is listed under the Google subcategory. The Smugmug staff person volunteered to change the settings for me, so I sent him the 6 step list, and how to do it, and he amazingly enough was able to change the settings! I have no idea how. If any of you are thinking of posting images online, let me wholeheartedly endorse Smugmug.com to you. They have the best, fastest, most knowledgeable service of any web company I've ever used. I absolutely recommend them- yes there's a fee, but let me tell you it's worth every penny! I had a response from a staffer within 20 minutes of sending my email.

So you should be seeing some changes to my main website kristidunlap.com within 2 days. It will now take you to my new Smugmug frontpage, which I'm working on today as well. If you go to the site and get what looks like a massive list of albums, that's because I'm still sorting through my mobs of images. :)

Smugmug has the fabulous option that people can purchase images from your site- I'll be enabling that soon, and testing the image print quality. Many pros use smugmug's print labs, so I'm optimistic.
