March 25, 2008

We've been having a very good visit with Hope and Jen, full of the exciting and the everyday, which is always more fun with friends. Yesterday we went out to Ely Cathedral and took the Octogon tower tour, which I love even though I've been on it like 5 times. :) We wandered around Cambridge and went and played games with a friend of ours from TEAM. Today we went to Tesco and had a 2 hour adventure there, and we went into Cambridge and hit the market and the post office and random other things.

Some people like to plan out their vacations in minute detail, following a schedule closely and knowing in advance what they'll do. I used to be like that, before I went to Cambodia, but over time I have given up that lifestyle of extreme planning and prefer to fly by the seat of my pants. :) I find that too much planning just causes needless stress when things change, which they will. We had intended to drive up to the Peak District tonight, and stay the night there, but rather than rush around and try to stick to that plan we decided to just drive up tomorrow morning instead. What are we going to do there? Well, we plan to see Chatsworth at some point, see the Hope Valley at some point, and at some point drive on to Wales. What will we do in Wales? See some castles, and stop at cool places. That's the extent of our plan. Fortunately Hope and Jen are as flexible as we are, and enjoy a good adventure the same as we do. If you decide to come visit and you don't like that style, your visit will be more enjoyable if you say that in advance and do a bit of research yourself so that we can make a more structured plan. :)

The Peak District is about 2.5 hours from here, and our first intended stop in North Wales is about 1.5 hours from there. So we'll be having some good road trip time in the car, most likely reading Mansfield Park and reading the Wales guidebook. :) When we get back I'll put up some images from there and let you know what Wales is like.

The weather has been more normal here now that the snow phase is over- I hope you're finally getting a bit of warm weather (those of you who are in Michigan). :)
