October 6, 2008

Wow- I have been so excited about my parents coming and so busy this week between getting the house straightened up that I haven't posted anything. This week has been crazy- Monday we were in London, Tuesday iBASE, Wednesday I had the Women's luncheon and had to process photos for that (they asked me to photograph it!) Thursday -Saturday I was a bit under the weather, and Sunday was the International Families lunch for StAG internationals. Intermixed with all of that was a lot of photo processing, house cleaning, furniture moving, 9 hours of driving to Ikea for G (more on that in a bit) and general crazyness. :)

So we have needed to get an Ikea bed frame because our mattress is from there and is 2 inches too wide on each side for our bed frame. So we decided to put the old frame in the spare room while my parents are here and get a properly sized frame for ourselves. 3 trips and 9 hours over 3 days later we have it. The headboard wouldn't fit in the car the first trip, so we rented a van to go get it, and Saturday night as we were starting to assemble it we realized they gave us the wrong sideboards...they were pretty unhelpful (although friendly) about it over the phone, so G had to drive BACK down there again to get the right part. Argh. So last night instead of just hanging out and getting to bed early so I could go down to meet my parents at Kings Cross I was up until midnight getting our bed together. :) It was a good experience- a very clear reminder that things in the UK are singularly unhelpful, and that's the way of life here- inefficient and unhelpful. You start to get used to it but it really strikes you when you first come from the US.

My parents arrived safe and sound with no problems, which has been an answer to pr for those of you I've updated aside from the blog. :) They were of course very tired today, but with an afternoon nap they were able to make it to almost 10pm! It's been really great having them here already, and it was so fun having tacos together (tacos is like our family's favorite food.) We don't have any set plans really, just to enjoy ourselves and for them to have a stress free vacation as much as possible. :)
