August 16, 2007

We've been in the UK for 3 weeks officially now (as of Tuesday) and BT still hasn't gotten us a phone. :) But we had some seriously large news hit yesterday- Xen Source was purchased by Citrix! It is a huge deal- everyone's keeping their jobs (or being offered new ones basically) and Citrix is buying people's stock options, which is going to create some nice bonuses for all 80 employees. Look up Xen Source on the web and you'll see the news articles.

This is an interesting time for us- we've never been in this kind of situation before. These are the benefits that come with a startup making it big- that's why people take the risk I guess. Anyway I think I used to consider people who made money through stocks as some sort of special fancy people- but really we're all just normal people doing normal jobs. :)

We had an enormous rain storm here last night, and the weather has cooled off considerably. I hope it'll blow over before Sunday's car boot sale. :)

Our first Sunday here I made a new friend, Hannah, at the chrch srvc. (Wonder why that looks funny? Because friends in some parts of the world can be monitored and security is an issue.) She is about our age, and has plugged us in past the surface level outreaches so we can get to work here. :) They have home groups of mixed ages based on where people live, and those start back up in September. We're looking to get involved with international students here since we have so much experience with that, and I am also considering doing things with the homeless outreach as well.

Pr for me- I'm not sure whether I should look for a position here, or possibly go back to school. I've considered continuing on for a masters in Environmental Engineering via a US school which allows you to do it online. It sort of depends- we want to be using this time as preparation in as many ways as we can for our future goal of work overseas. Since I don't know what I'll be doing it's hard to prepare for that. :)

Oh, an update on the car- we just received the head gasket repair kit (which was held up by customs, we had to pay the famous 17% VAT on it just like everything else you buy here) and we'll be using the kit this weekend. After that Megan will be as good as new. She runs great already, but we have to keep buying deionized water for the radiator and filling it up after every trip. :)

How are you all doing? We'd love to hear from you so drop us an email, or you can send us real mail if you feel like it at:

Quaker Cottage

Cambridge is considered our City, and the Post code is like the zipcode. We do get phone messages as well although we can't call back yet. :)
