It's G's birthday today! Happy 31st!
Our chrch here in Cambridge is called St Andrews, and they have a cool service on Sunday evenings that we went to before and also went to today. There's a group called HUB for 20s and 30s, sort of career folks, some are married, some single, some with kids, some without. I like that system. Anyway most of them go to the 5pm service. We made some new friends there, but most of our friends from HUB are "away on holiday" like just about everyone else right now. It's what they call "non-term time" which means in American English school's out for the summer. Since people here get very long vacation times (on the order of 6 weeks per year) they take 3 or 4 weeks in the summer and go on holiday somewhere. It seems like a good system, except that it's so expensive to travel because everyone is on holiday. Our American friends here have kids in school, and they found it irritating because they can't take their kids out of school during non holiday times.
Nelly made her first venture out into the front cottage garden today- it has a gate so we can keep her from going out into the street there. It's a quiet street, but still. We moved our bed into the room at the back of the house where it's more quiet, and there's a great view of the landlord's garden.
This time around we remembered that places close on Sunday at 4pm, so we went around and bought some household things that we needed and wandered around Cambridge a bit before the service.
